Puracam for iOS
Email: support@puracam.com
Puracam is made by one person, so replies usually take a couple of days. Every message is
read.
Requirements
- iPhone 12 Pro or later, or iPad Pro (2020 or later). A LiDAR sensor is required — non-Pro iPhones do not have one, and the app cannot scan without it.
- iOS 17 or later.
- Free storage space. Scans are large: a detailed room can run to hundreds of megabytes.
Reporting a problem
The more of this you can include, the faster it gets fixed:
- Device model and iOS version.
- Puracam version (shown in Settings).
- What you were scanning — an object, a room, indoors or outdoors.
- What happened, and what you expected instead.
- A screenshot or a screen recording, if the problem is visual.
Scanning
New to scanning? Watch the short how-to videos — one for each mode, with every step explained. The same videos are in the app, on Home under Learn and in the Guide on the scan screen.
Restarting or discarding a scan
In Space mode, tap the close button while scanning and choose Stop & Save, Restart Scan or Discard Scan. Restart and Discard delete what was captured so far — a discarded scan cannot be recovered.
Parts of my scan have holes
The most common cause is the surface itself. LiDAR measures reflected infrared light, and some surfaces return almost none of it: glass, mirrors, polished metal, water and very dark matte materials. Where the sensor gets no reliable depth, no geometry can be built — the data was never captured, so no amount of processing recovers it.
What helps: scan those areas from several angles and closer in, keep within about four metres of the surface, and avoid strong direct sunlight, which drowns out the sensor.
The scan looks wavy or the walls are not flat
Move slowly and steadily, and try to return to a previously scanned area occasionally so tracking can re-anchor. Fast turns and long straight sweeps without overlap allow small tracking errors to accumulate.
The texture looks blurry or doubled
This usually means the camera moved quickly during capture, or the same surface was captured from very different angles. Slower movement and even lighting give the cleanest texture.
Processing takes a long time
Processing time scales with the size of the capture and the quality preset. Choosing a faster preset, or scanning a smaller area, reduces it considerably. Keep the app in the foreground while it works.
Object scans
Object mode turns a single object into a detailed 3D model using Apple Object Capture, with its real width, depth and height.
How do I scan an object?
The object video shows the whole walk, including turning the object over. In short:
- Open the scan screen and swipe the mode strip to OBJECT.
- Place the object on a table or the floor, with room to walk around it.
- Tap the shutter and circle the object slowly — about 30 seconds. You can flip it over to capture the underside too.
- Tap Done. Processing starts automatically and the model opens with its dimensions.
Use Edit to clean up: a crop box, a lasso, removing the base and floating bits, or Auto Clean. The tools are free to try on any scan; saving the edit is part of Pro, except on scans made with a free credit. Your first 10 object scans are free, with full quality, every export format and the editing tools; scans made with a free credit keep that access for good. Object mode cannot be paused.
Floor plans
Floor Plan mode scans a room — or several connected rooms in one walk — and turns it into a dimensioned 2D drawing, with the same space also available in 3D.
How do I make a floor plan?
The floor plan video shows the walk. In short:
- Open the scan screen and swipe the mode strip to FLOOR PLAN.
- Tap the shutter and walk the room slowly, pointing the camera at every wall and corner until the outline on screen is complete.
- Tap Done. The room opens in 3D.
- Tap the Floor plan tool to see and edit the 2D drawing, then the share button to export it.
Scanning, the 3D room view, the 2D drawing and the editor are free, and so is export as PDF or PNG with a small watermark. SVG, DXF, CSV and JSON export, and removing the watermark, are part of Puracam Pro. Floor Plan mode cannot be paused yet.
What is on the drawing?
- Walls, doors and windows, with the overall dimensions of each wall and the width of every opening.
- Window sill heights.
- Room name and floor area.
- Furniture drawn as symbols — beds, sofas, tables, chairs, storage, kitchen and bathroom fixtures, and decor.
Use the layers button to hide dimensions, rooms, doors and windows, or furniture. Whatever is hidden stays hidden in the export.
Editing the plan
New in version 1.2. Tap anything on the drawing to select it:
- Drag walls and corners, or draw new walls. Walls snap into line with each other, and you can lock a length or a right angle.
- Add doors and windows, split an open space into rooms with divider lines, and mark columns.
- Add furniture from a catalog of more than 100 pieces. Dragged near a wall, a piece snaps against it and turns to face the room; in a corner it snaps to both walls.
- Wall-mounted pieces — upper cabinets, range hoods, a wall TV, shelves, mirrors, lamps and more — sit at their real mounting height; change it in the Elevation field, or tap Place on floor. Puracam warns you when a piece would cover a door or window.
- Overlay the 3D scan under the drawing to line walls up with what was really measured.
A wall, door or piece of furniture is missing
Floor Plan mode uses Apple's on-device room detection, which only draws what it has seen clearly. Scan in good light, point at every wall and corner, keep doors open so they can be detected, and look at furniture from more than one side. Glass walls and large mirrors are often missed, for the same reason described under Parts of my scan have holes. Anything that was missed can be added by hand in the editor.
Feet and inches
In the Floor plan screen, tap the gear icon and choose metric or imperial units. Exports use
the same units. Length fields also accept a value typed with its unit, such as
12'6" or 3.2 m.
Exporting
3D models
OBJ is free. Puracam Pro adds the other formats and the highest export quality. Which to pick:
| Format | Best for |
|---|---|
| OBJ | Widest compatibility with CAD and older 3D tools (free) |
| USDZ | Quick Look on Apple devices, AR previews, sharing with iPhone users |
| GLB / glTF | Web viewers, Blender, game engines — GLB is a single file |
| FBX | Maya, 3ds Max, Unity, Unreal |
| DAE | Collada — exchange between 3D tools such as SketchUp |
| STL | 3D printing (geometry only, no texture) |
| PLY | Point-cloud and mesh tools such as MeshLab and CloudCompare |
| DXF | AutoCAD and other CAD software (geometry only, no texture) |
Floor plans
PDF and PNG are free, with a small "Made with Puracam" watermark. Puracam Pro adds SVG, DXF, CSV and JSON, and removes the watermark.
| Format | Best for |
|---|---|
| Printing and sending — to true scale (Fit, 1:50, 1:100 or 1:200) on A4, A3, Letter or Tabloid, with a title block and a page of door and room schedules | |
| PNG | A 2400 px image for quick sharing |
| SVG | Editing in Figma, Illustrator or on the web |
| DXF | AutoCAD and other CAD tools (DXF 2007) — walls, doors and dimensions on separate layers, door and window blocks, real dimension objects |
| CSV | Door and room schedules for Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets |
| JSON | The edited plan as structured data, for other floor plan tools |
360° video
Any scan can be turned into a 360° turntable video and saved to Photos. Without Pro the video carries a small watermark.
Exported files go through the standard iOS share sheet, so you can send them to Files, AirDrop them to a Mac, or open them in another app.
Updates
When a newer version is on the App Store, Puracam shows a reminder on the Home screen and an Update row in Settings. Dismissing the Home reminder hides it until the next version comes out.
Subscriptions
Managing or cancelling
Subscriptions are handled by Apple, not inside Puracam. Open Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your device to change or cancel one. Cancelling stops the next renewal and keeps access until the end of the period you paid for.
Restoring a purchase
On a new device, or after reinstalling, use Restore Purchases on the Pro screen while signed in with the same Apple Account used to subscribe.
Refunds
Refunds are issued by Apple, not by me. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Privacy
Scans stay on your device and are never uploaded. Anonymous usage analytics can be turned off in Settings → Share usage data. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my data?
Delete individual scans in the library, or delete the app to remove everything at once. There is no server copy to request deletion of.
