How to scan
One short video for each scan mode. Play it, or tap a step to jump straight to that moment. The same videos are in the app: on Home under Learn, and in the Guide on the scan screen.
Scan a space
For a room or a whole home as a 3D model with photographic texture. Walls first, then the ceiling, then the floor — and finish where you began.
- Face a wall, tap Scan, hold steady Start just inside the door. Hold still for a moment while scanning starts.
- Walls first, about 1 m away Walk along the walls with the phone at chest height, sweeping up and down as you go.
- Go slowly so views overlap Slow down at corners. Moving too fast leaves holes in the mesh.
- Overlap where you started Keep going a little past your starting point to close the loop. It keeps walls straight.
- Tilt up and turn: ceiling From the middle of the room, tilt the phone up and turn a full circle.
- Tilt down and turn: floor Tilt down and turn again to capture the floor and the base of the walls.
- Get closer to orange areas Orange isn't captured yet. Move within 2.5 m and sweep over it until it turns into a grid.
- Finish where you started Walk back to where you began, then tap Done.
Space mode · 0:39 · no sound. Stuck with holes or wavy walls afterwards? See Scanning on the Support page.
Scan an object
For a single object as a high-detail 3D model with its real dimensions. Put it on a table or the floor with room to walk all the way around it.
- Point at the object Tap Scan to detect it, fit the box around it, then tap again to start.
- Circle it: low, level, then above Walk slowly around it three times, each at a different height.
- Scan the bottom too? When asked, tap Flip & scan bottom if the object can be turned over.
- Turn it over onto its side Lay it on its side so the bottom faces you.
- Circle again to capture the bottom Let it detect the object again, then walk one more circle.
Object mode · 0:22 · no sound. Your first 10 object scans are free, with full quality and every export format. Object mode cannot be paused.
Scan a floor plan
For a dimensioned 2D drawing of a room, or several connected rooms in one walk. Only walls, openings and furniture matter here — not the floor or ceiling.
- Start inside the room, tap Scan Stand inside the room, near a corner, and finish this room before moving to the next.
- Walk along the walls, phone at chest height Keep walls and corners in view. You don't need to scan the floor or ceiling.
- Point at windows and doors until outlined Hold on each window, door and opening until a frame appears around it.
- Show furniture from the side Beds, sofas, tables and cabinets need a clear side view to be placed on the plan.
- Finish where you started Walk back to where you began, then tap Done to get the floor plan.
Floor Plan mode · 0:25 · no sound. Something missing from the drawing? Anything that was not detected can be added by hand in the editor — see Floor plans.
Good to know
- You need LiDAR. iPhone 12 Pro or later Pro models, or iPad Pro (2020 or later).
- Light and surfaces matter. Scan in even light. Glass, mirrors and very dark or shiny surfaces return little depth and often leave holes.
- Changed your mind? In Space mode, closing a scan in progress lets you save it, restart it or discard it.
